Summer is slowly coming to an end, and before we know it, the temperatures will be dropping and snow will be falling.  In the meantime, it’s important to make sure that your tires are adequately prepared for the colder weather.  Make sure you run through this checklist prior to any fall road trips you might take.  As we all know, the colder months in Rochester can be pretty brutal, so it’s crucial that the necessary precautions are taken to prepare.

  1. Check the condition of your tires.

Do you notice any signs of wear and tear?  When was the last time you bought new tires?  Are these tires adequate enough for winter or do I need snow tires? Ask yourself these questions when inspecting your tires for any damages and assess your next steps.

  2. Replace regular tires with snow tires.

At Hooper’s Tire Outlet, we carry quality used tires that can help prepare you for the winter months ahead.  Select the best option that is best for you and your vehicle.  We are here to help you handle the rough Rochester winters.

  3. Once replaced, check your tire pressure.

This is definitely something to check on a regular basis.  This will ensure that you have an even tread on your tires, making for a smoother and more comfortable ride, not to mention allow a longer lifespan for your tires.  Tire pressure also affects the traction and handling of your car. Because cold weather will cause your tires to contract, you want to be consistently monitoring them to make sure they’re properly inflated. Make sure to check your spare tire to ensure it’s also sufficiently inflated.

  4. Make sure your car is aligned.

This is something that people often forget about doing but is imperative to the overall lasting quality of your tires. Doing this will help your tires last longer and provide for safer handling as you drive. Also, it can help to improve gas mileage.

  5. Take your car for a test drive.

Once your tires have been replaced and you’ve followed all the previous steps, don’t be afraid to take your car for a test drive to make sure everything is running smoothly.  You might even be able to tell a major difference as a result of the changes you made.
